Lazy weekend-Not

We geared up to have a lazy weekend at home, and by lazy weekend I pretty much mean no reason to put on adult clothes and deal with the outside world. However that rarely works out as planned.

Friday (July 18th): After he made it up here from work and having to stop at the sheriff's office we had to deal with the mall. Neither of us particularly care for the mall for several reason but the two big ones are that they don't allow guns and, well,  the people. But this time it was necessary, for several months any time we were around the mall Brandon was trying to coax me into letting him buy me an Orioles hat and I kept protesting. Well next week we are seeing one of their affiliates, the Delmarva Shorebirds play the Hickory Crawdads, so I finally broke down. We headed to the mall in search of something to support Birdland. We ended up having to go to two stores, one didn't have the selection of O's stuff that they did before and they didn't have his size in hats. The second seemed like just as much of a lost cause on my end, but we did find his hat. Then as the last second when I was giving up my hero found a hat for me hiding behind the other. Lucky girl.

Saturday (July 19th): That day included waking up entirely too early and making breakfast. We made toast bowls again, which ended up being a little more of a mess than the first time. He forgot to butter both sides of the bread so they didn't get as toasty as last time and I managed to turn the oven off when I went to turn it up so the darn things would finish cooking. Although a bit of a mess to get there the end product still tasted pretty good. I blame waking up too early.  After that we headed out to our gun dealer's shop to put some money down on a new toy. We originally planned to go to the movies but it just wasn't in the cards. We went out in search of a gift. The rest of the day was mostly spent being lazy since some unexpected plans came up for Sunday.

Sunday (July 20th): We headed down to Gastonia for his brother's surprise birthday party, hence the gift. We spent a while down there waiting for the festivities to start. It was full of two munchkins running around, a little time helping decorate and keeping the littlest one from smacking someone with bricks. His brother seemed fairly happy to see people and he liked his shirt that Brandon got him. After that we headed back so we would be able to cook, so he would have lunch the next day. We tried a new recipe for crispy honey pork chops. Turned out fairly well for a first attempt but there are a couple things that we will need to alter for the next time we make it.

I was lucky enough to end up with an extra day with him this week. He forgot some stuff at the house and ended up coming back here Monday after work. But I will back track a bit, we also found out we were going to be able to get free tickets to a Panther's game from a guy he works with. I have wanted to go to a game for a little while now and added it to our little (well not so little) list of so if we get the chance...So we were able to set up plans to go to a game in December vs the Tampa Bucs. Neither of us are super huge football fans, him probably less so than me but he is being a good sport and going into it with an open mind.  Again, lucky girl. But back to the extra time. We made plans to bake the delicious bakewells again but that ended up being a flop. The dough just wouldn't set and ended up having to add way too much flour to it which messed up the taste. We ditched that plan and headed to Sonic to get milkshakes, then detoured to Krispy Kreme for doughnuts instead. We came back and worked on some of his stuff for wok which ended up being more difficult than anticipated but it needed to be done. Perhaps not our most adventurous night but being with him is always worth it.

Misc:
We firmed up some plans to go away for VA to go camping with some of my family. which means I went into super planing mode of things. The first isn't until the end of September through the beginning of October and I already have lists going. And we also added plans for another concert to our list. Funny I went 25 years without going to an actual concert then we meet and we are going to 4 in a matter of a couple of months, not that I am complaining.

A much needed quiet weekend

It seems for the past few weeks we have mostly been on the go so it was nice to have a quiet weekend at home. Our original plans were to go to Inkfest but between him having to work and the extended drive we blew that off pretty quickly. It did end up being another unusual week, I suppose if this keeps happening I will have to stop calling it that. We had our normal Wednesday evening together but Brandon didn't have to work the following Thursday. We made pizzas together Wednesday night, which were delicious. I however forgot to take a picture of them. They were bacon, pepperoni, onion, green pepper and two cheeses. Yum.We ended up being super productive and getting some of his errands done followed by a nice lunch in downtown. We made dinner together that evening, something that is quickly turning into my favorite thing to do together. We went simple with chicken shake and bake served with buttered corn and chipotle bacon cheddar mashed potatoes. Sounds like a lot of work but we did mixes instead of the normal home made fair.

Friday was mostly lazy as well, once he got off work we basically just stuck around the house and watched movies. He had a pretty rough day at work so it was nice to just keep things low key. We hung out in th kitchen for a while and made fancy grilled cheese sandwiches. Because we.are.adults! (July 11th)

We woke up super early on Saturday to go out to breakfast before he had to go to work. Neither of us are particularly morning people but he breakfast was good and it was nice to spend some extra time together that we wouldn't normally be together for. We finished early enough to be able to come back and lay down for a little while. He went off to work and later that morning I did the grocery shopping with Dad. That in itself isn't overly exciting but we have been planning to go camping for a little while now and I found the tent that we were looking at on sale. $20 off the price that we were expecting. After he got off we went back to the store to pick it up. We set it up in the yard to see how it looked.

Turned out to be a great little tent so hopefully it will cool off and we will be able to use it soon. We made a nice pasta dinner, he was sweet enough to offer to help but this was one it was just easier for me to take care of while he took a shower. It was another quiet nice at home with more movies. (July 12th)

We didn't do our cooking adventure much this weekend so we baked together on Sunday. Cherry bakewell, a fantastic treat that I loved while in England. He has an affinity for England so I thought this would be a nice crossover. However it was 100 degrees, I was hot and cranky and the dough just didn't want to work with me! He was kind an patient with me, more so than I probably deserved. The end result was still tasty even with set backs.

After the effort that had to go into making the bakewell tarts dinner was kept simple with breakfast for dinner. A little treat that we like to indulge in.Blueberry pancakes, eggs and a large pile of bacon. Sunday night was filled with O's baseball and trying to get a splinter/piece of glass out of his foot. The baseball was probably a bit more entertaining.  (July 13th)

An unusual week

We lucked out with the holiday weekend and had quite a bit more time together than normal. Usually I head down to Brandon's place mid week to break it up a bit but this week it worked out that we were able to spend Wednesday-Monday morning together. So we went full tilt on things to do.

Wednesday, July 2rd:
We went out to dinner at Steak n Shake because we had plans to go out and I didn't really feel like cooking. So we spent a dinner chatting about things then headed over to Adventure Landing for some time in the batting cages. It is summer after-all and baseball has become a semi regular staple in our lives. He nailed some balls this time around, I was not so lucky :). But after that we went to cookout to get him his first cookout milkshake.

Thursday, July 3rd:
Ended up being a fairly quite afternoon, Brandon ordered his new AR which was very exciting :), super happy with his choice. Later on we spent some time on the pool tables in Bro-Central. The tables were somewhat full this time with Bro-tastic guys that thought they were awesome. Obviously they were not :P.  But we played a few games, both made some good shots but he still beat me. One day..!

Friday, July 4th:
The big show! The day was spent slow smoking ribs, baseball and fireworks. Because 'Murica! Have to love the home team and all but the Crawdad's just can't win. They had a good come back and even a broken bat but still lost the game. In true American fashion we dined on hot dogs and nachos and rooted for the home team. The game was follow by a pretty good fireworks show,

Saturday, July 5th:
As much as I love baseball, Saturday was by far my favorite day this weekend and our busiest one. The day started by us attempting to make homemade tomato sauce for spaghetti, and I do mean attempting. I'm going to say not something we will try without a little more research, it was okay but nothing close to great. That was followed by heading to Southern Charm Winery for a wine tasting. Not something we have done in a while and found one that was close so it was worth a little trip. We tasted 6 sweet wines and really enjoyed 4/6 which is unusual. We bought a bottle and we were able to keep the glasses, a nice little memento from the trip. After that we went and saw How To Train Your Dragon 2, oh-my-god. Adorable doesn't even begin to describe that movie. We went to a local mom and pop theater in town called State Cinema, great prices decent quality theater and the fact that it locally owned all added to the experience. That evening we went out to Brown Mountain to try to see the Brown Mountain Lights, no lights were seen. We turned the bed of his truck into a mini bed with cuddled under the stars for a few hours, a great way to end the day.

Sunday, July 6th:
Our non-lazy Sunday was spend doing some running around, a lot of cooking and going with Dad to buy his new gun. We made Brandon's lunches for the week which proved to be quite a task this time around but it is well worth it. We watched the first how to train your dragon and 21 and over while we were cooking so that helped. Cooking and running around was finished off by shaving the dog since his furry butt is too hot for this summer we are having. Not a lot of chances to be lazy this time!
